Rare/Vtg Bethlehem Panorama Nativity Scene Mother-of-Pearl & Abalone Shell 17.5" for sale

Made in Bethlehem likely in the 1970s?

17.5" wide x 14.5" tall x 3.5" depth

This spectacular piece is made of mother of pearl, the smooth, shining, iridescent substance forming the inner layer of abalone shells. The mother of pearl is cut into thin layers and then carved to make the nativity figures. This panorama is reminiscent of a cathedral, with arches, steps and inset panels depicting important moments in the nativity of Jesus Christ.

On the left is the Annunciation to Mary when an angel told her she would give birth to our Savior, the Son of God

In the middle is the nativity, with the traditional shepherds and kings

On the right is the Crucifixion of Christ

Topping the panorama is the resurrected Christ in glory
