Here is a rare opportunity to acquire one dozen, 1925 Chicago “ Lake Shore Athletic Club” bone plates made for Marshall Fields, Chicago by Rosenthal China of Germany. Bone plates, in the 1920’s and for decades long before, were often used for discardable elements of the meal, but today make wonderful plates for small vegetable servings, a salad or relish.Please see my recent photo of a table setting where these actual bone plates would be used for a side dish to accompany the meal. Note how the curve of the plate allows it to fit snugly against the dinner plate. The plates are bright white with a vibrant border of blue and gold.The image of an athlete, positioned prominently — ready to throw the discus, was historically appropriate and became the logo of the club.These bone plates are in very good, used condition : no chips, no cracks, no crazing with gold and blue rims still vibrant.
