Things don’t get much more rare than this. There are only 2 in existence.
This is a photograph I shot on 35mm b/w film back in October of 1997 at the FiA World Sportscar Championships at Laguna Seca.
In my humble opinion, this is the best photo ever taken of a McLaren F1 GTR.
As any avid BMW enthusiast knows, a big part of BMW’s racing history is the BMW McLaren F1 GTR racecar, which won LeMans in 1995.
And the street version of the BMW McLaren F1 still holds the record as the fastest naturally aspirated car of all time, attaining the speed of 240.1 mph in 1998.
As a photographer, I had two winning entries in Nikon photo contests back in the 1990s. I took this photo with a Nikon F4 and a Nikkor 300mm lens on Ilford b/w 35mm film. I’ve included a photo of my paddock pass from the day I shot this in 1997 (the second listing photo).
This is a gorgeous 14” x 11” photographic print (unframed) made by ProColor Film Lab of Minneapolis back in 1997. It’s #1 of only 2 that were ever made at this size, and no others will ever be made. I will sign the back and number it as “#1 of 2.” As I said, things don’t get much more rare than this.
The condition is MINT, as it’s been carefully stored in my flat-file cabinet since 1997.
FYI, of all the artwork on my walls, my framed photo of this (at a slightly larger size) gets the most “oohs and ahhs” from people, especially car guys. It seems every contractor who’s ever come to my home to do work has wanted to know how to get a copy of this photo. Kinda crazy.
