AirCal identity used from 1981–1987, when Air California shortened its name to AirCal. The purple lettering with the orange/red stripes in the “A” was introduced in 1981 and designed by Landor Associates.

AirCal was based in Newport Beach, California, with Orange County Airport—today’s John Wayne Airport—as its main base. American Airlines acquired AirCal, and the AirCal name disappeared when operations were merged into American on July 1, 1987.
