Up for sale is an incredibly rare, museum-quality piece of Montana mining history: an authentic, embossed "MONTANA LIQUOR CO. / GRANITE, MON." liquor bottle.
Dating back to the height of the 1880s silver boom, this bottle features a beautiful hand-applied blob top and a striking light aqua/blue-green tint.
Historical Significance:
The highly coveted "MON." abbreviation indicates a scarce Territorial vintage, manufactured right around or just prior to Montana achieving statehood in November 1889. The Montana Liquor Company operated directly out of the legendary "Silver Queen" boomtown of Granite, which was entirely abandoned following the devastating Silver Panic of 1893. Because of the town's short lifespan, surviving embossed glass from this location is exceptionally hard to find.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The embossing is strong, crisp, and highly legible. The glass displays beautiful natural character with characteristic era bubbles and a wonderful, clear aqua hue. No major structural cracks, chips, or severe burial sickness. (Please see high-resolution photos for exact details).
This is a true "holy grail" find for collectors of Western Americana, Montana ghost towns, and territorial frontier bottles.
