Original antique pamphlet, 1855.
\"DISCOURSE, Delivered at the Funeral of the Late ELDER JOHN WALLACE, in the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, East Earl Township, Lancaster County, PA, December 12, 1854.\" By Rev. John Leaman, M.D. Lancaster: Printed by John H. Pearsol, 1855.
John Wallace (1769-1854) was a documented Pennsylvania political figure: a Lancaster County merchant elected as a Federalist to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1822-1823 term. He died in Churchtown, Lancaster County, and was interred at Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery, East Earl Township — exactly as recorded in this pamphlet. He served as an elder of the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church for 32 years and was a merchant for over 30 years in the Conestoga Valley.
The pamphlet includes a lengthy biographical tribute detailing his family\'s emigration from Scotland in the mid-1700s, his life and community standing, and reprints a period newspaper obituary from the Saturday Evening Express (Dec. 23, 1854) titled \"A Patriarch Gathered to His Fathers.\"
Period ink inscription on front cover. Some age toning and foxing spots throughout, binding intact, text clear and complete throughout. A genuinely researchable piece of Pennsylvania political and religious history, with a documented, identifiable subject.
