The knife features an approximately 8-inch single-edged spear-point blade, substantial blade stock, a long straight metal crossguard, and a full-tang construction. The handle has wooden scales secured with four visible fasteners/rivets and an elongated oval escutcheon inset into the handle.
The overall configuration is an excellent example of the large Sheffield-made Bowie/hunting knife style produced by Joseph Rodgers & Sons during the Victorian period. Rodgers was one of Sheffield\'s major historic cutlery manufacturers, and the 6 Norfolk Street address is associated with the company\'s Sheffield premises.
The knife has a particularly substantial, purpose-built feel, with a broad blade, strong ricasso, heavy guard, and full tang. It is an interesting piece for collectors of antique Sheffield cutlery, Bowie knives, sporting knives, hunting knives, and 19th-century edged weapons. Manufactured - 1870 -1890
