This is a very rare version of the Harry Brown antique Sierra Club Ginger Beer stoneware bottle. “Sierra Club Beverage Co.” around the arched top (rather than “Harry Brown” … rarely seen on the market. Made 1925-1927. Amazing Sierra Beverage Co. bottle produced in Glendale, California, in the 1920s.This approximately 7” tall, 10 oz. stoneware bottle has a cream body with a brown-glazed shoulder and neck and a bold black transfer-printed front label reading:SIERRA CLUB GINGER BEERSIERRA BEVERAGE CO.GLENDALE, CALIF.CONTENTS 10 OZS.The center also carries the HB Quality trademark and registered-trademark wording. What makes this example especially interesting is the branding. Many surviving Glendale ginger beer bottles from this company are seen with “Harry Brown” across the top, while the “Sierra Club” version is much less commonly encountered. That makes this a particularly appealing variant for collectors of early California advertising stoneware and regional beverage history.Sierra Beverage Co. was operating in Glendale during the 1920s, when the city was growing rapidly and local bottlers were producing sodas, ginger beer, mineral waters and other non-alcoholic drinks for Southern California consumers. Period Glendale newspapers were advertising Sierra Club Ginger Beer by 1921, firmly placing this bottle in that early Prohibition-era beverage landscape. The bottle is also a nice piece of Glendale local history, representing a small regional beverage company from a period when independent bottlers were far more common than they are today.Condition is EXCELLENT. No stopper present. The front transfer remains strong and very readable. Please review photos closely for condition.A great piece for collectors of California advertising, antique ginger beer bottles, stoneware, Prohibition-era beverage history, Glendale memorabilia, or early Southern California commercial ephemera.
