Authentic Early 1900s "Orphan Boy" Smoking Tobacco Die-Cut Store Hanging Sign
Manufactured for John Weisert Tobacco Co. – St. Louis, MO
Up for sale is a genuine, 100% original antique retail country store advertising sign for Orphan Boy Fine Carolina Smoking Tobacco. Factory die-cut in the distinctive shape of a tobacco sack pouch with trompe-l’œil drawstrings, revenue stamp details, and the classic mule emblem outside the barn door.
A Critical Note on Authenticity for Collectors:
The vast majority of Orphan Boy items circulating online are modern digital reprints, fantasy metal tin signs, or raw unpunched paper warehouse sheets. This is NOT a modern reproduction and NOT a laser reprint. This is an authentic, original period store display produced on vintage cardstock (stiff, flexible period stock—not heavy thick pulpboard) and features the original factory brass hanging eyelet at the top crest.
100% Original Advertising Artifact: Genuine c. 1910s–1920s retail store advertising survivor featuring rich period chromolithograph inks and authentic John Weisert Tobacco Co. markings.
Dimensions: Substantial display scale, measuring approximately 17 inches tall by 12 inches wide.
Material & Construction: Authentic flexible vintage cardstock with its original brass grommet intact at top center for string or nail hanging.
Condition: Sold as-is, no returns. The central graphics, colors, and iconic mule illustration remain sharp and remarkably vibrant. Shows authentic vintage country-store patina, including honest peripheral water staining/tide lines along the lower edge and right border, minor edge wear/nicks, and natural age toning on the reverse (clearly documented in photos). Untouched, unrestored original condition. Please inspect all high-resolution photos closely as they represent the exact condition.
Collector Packaging: Shipped completely flat, protected inside acid-free plastic and secured between heavy sheets of rigid, double-wall corrugated cardboard to guarantee zero bending or corner damage in transit.
