[ An ambitious 350-foot marble obelisk designed by sculptor Charles Keck that was proposed as a permanent memorial for Thomas Edison in West Orange. While this grand monument featuring two huge hands holding a light globe was never fully realized as described, Edison's legacy is honored through other major landmarks: Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Tower (Menlo Park, New Jersey): A different Art Deco memorial was actually completed in 1938 at the Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park (New Jersey)This 131-foot concrete tower is topped by the world's largest lightbulb constructed of 3 tons of Pyrex glass. Final Resting Place: Although Edison was initially buried in a temporary grave at Rosedale Cemetery in West Orange, he and his wife Mina were exhumed in 1963. They are now permanently interred in a simple gravesite at their former estate, Glenmont, (New Jersey) which is part of the Thomas Edison National Historical Park in New Jersey.
