RARE EGIDIO CASAGRANDE ITALIAN MCM HAMMERED BRASS WALL PLANTER #381 — SIgnedA remarkable vintage Italian designer find by renowned Italian metalworker and sculptor Egidio Casagrande (1911–1962), produced in Borgo Valsugana, Italy. Casagrande is particularly known for his hand-hammered brass and copper work, and his workshop produced decorative objects, planters, vessels, sculptures and other highly distinctive metalwork. This large 14.5” × 12” sculptural wall planter has the dramatic scalloped/fan form and heavily textured hammered surface characteristic of Casagrande’s work. It retains its original maker’s mark on the reverse: E. Casagrande, Italy, Borgo Valsugana, #381.The beautiful aged surface includes areas of natural verdigris and patina, giving the piece exactly the kind of character collectors look for in original Mid-Century Italian metalwork. This is not an ordinary vintage brass planter. Signed Casagrande pieces are actively sought by collectors and are being offered by established vintage-design dealers for several hundred dollars and, for larger planters, well over $1,000. A comparable signed Casagrande planter is currently listed at $1,285, while another vintage Casagrande brass planter is listed at $1,650. An exceptional and increasingly collectible example of Mid-Century Italian work.
