Beautiful hand-carved and hand-painted Oaxacan deer/antelope alebrije by Queta Ramirez Ojeda of San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca, Mexico.
This is a particularly striking piece, with an elegant elongated body and legs, dramatic branching horns, raised tail, and expressive open-mouth face. The sculpture has a black ground covered in extremely fine white dotwork and colorful hand-painted flowers and vines in shades of pink, blue, yellow, red and green. Turquoise-painted legs and underside provide a vivid contrast.
The underside is clearly signed/inscribed: “Queta Ramirez Ojeda / Tilcajete, Oaxaca,” identifying both the artist and its Oaxacan origin. Please see the close-up photograph of the signature.

Detachable Components:
The two horns, two ears and tail are detachable by design. They insert into corresponding openings in the sculpture and are shown removed in one of the photographs.
These components will be removed and individually protected for safer shipping to reduce the risk of damage in transit. The buyer will simply need to gently reinsert them upon arrival. The detachable construction is intentional and should not be mistaken for damage.
Condition:
Pre-owned and in good overall condition, with some minor paint/surface wear and small imperfections consistent with age, previous display and the handmade nature of the sculpture.
