Discover a unique piece of photographic history with this antique stereoview card, featuring a stark architectural scene. The stereograph depicts a formidable brick building with a castellated roofline, reminiscent of a Victorian-era prison or institutional structure. A fence borders a grassy area in the foreground, leading up to the imposing facade. The reverse of the card bears handwritten text, reading: \"Where the damned are hanged,\" providing a chilling context to the somber imagery and suggesting the location was associated with public executions or a gallows site. This stereoview offers a fascinating glimpse into historical architecture and societal practices of the 19th century. This vintage stereograph is presented on a sturdy cardboard mount with two albumen prints, characteristic of early 3D photography.
