DescriptionOffered here is a scarce prewar Japanese military postcard and document set issued by the Imperial Japanese Army. The original envelope is titled:“Aikoku No. 6 (Kurume Branch) Armored Vehicle in Action”
and bears the name of the Japanese Army Ministry. The set includes two color postcards showing the same vehicle from different angles, the original envelope, and a specification sheet. This vehicle was one of the so-called “Aikoku” patriotic donation vehicles, military equipment funded through contributions collected from civilians, local organizations, and patriotic associations and then presented to the Japanese Army. The vehicle itself is clearly marked “Aikoku No. 6”, allowing this particular donated vehicle to be individually identified. The accompanying specification sheet identifies it as a:Domestic Type 92 Armored Vehicleand lists the manufacturer as:Ishikawajima Automobile Manufacturing Co., TokyoThe sheet also records contemporary technical specifications including weight, engine output, dimensions, maximum speed, climbing ability, trench-crossing capability, and crew capacity. The Type 92 was an early Japanese tracked armored vehicle developed during the 1930s for the mechanization of cavalry and reconnaissance units. Compared with the major European land powers, Japan produced armored vehicles on a relatively limited scale during this period, making surviving contemporary material connected with individual vehicles particularly interesting to military-history collectors. What makes this set especially desirable is that it does not consist simply of generic military postcards. It documents a specifically identified Aikoku donation vehicle, and retains the two color postcards together with its original envelope and technical specification sheet. Both postcards are unused and have “CARTE POSTALE / UNION POSTALE UNIVERSELLE” printed on the reverse. There is age-related toning, staining, creasing, edge wear, and other signs of age. The specification sheet has some wear and damage around the edges. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition. An unusual surviving piece of prewar Japanese armored-vehicle and patriotic-donation history.Shipping
