Penthouse Comix #7 — May/June 1995 — Moebius “I Am Not Batman”
A terrific artifact from the brief, extravagant era when Penthouse Comix attempted to combine European-style adult comics, lavish painted artwork and mainstream comics talent into one oversized glossy magazine.
This is Issue #7, May/June 1995, headlined across the cover:
“I AM NOT BATMAN” BY MOEBIUS & MORE!
The cover deliberately plays with Batman imagery while being equally deliberate about the joke. The fine print at lower right states:
“BATMAN is © & ® 1995 DC COMICS Inc. and BATMAN does not appear in this magazine.”
In other words: not Batman. Definitely, officially, contractually not Batman.
The Moebius billing is the major collector hook here. Jean Giraud/Moebius remains one of the defining figures of European comics and science-fiction illustration, and his appearance gives this issue crossover appeal well beyond collectors assembling a Penthouse Comix run.

- gloriously enormous ANIME 18 logo
This is exactly the transitional moment when imported Japanese animation, CD-ROM multimedia and the early home-computer market collided. Long before streaming made everything instantly accessible, somebody was expected to put a shiny disc into a beige computer and fire up QuickTime. Civilization was advancing magnificently.
For collectors of vintage anime advertising, early multimedia, Software Sculptors, Anime 18 and 1990s computer culture, the back cover may be nearly as interesting as the magazine itself.
