Original handwritten letter from Gregory 'Pappy' Boyington — Medal of Honor recipient, Marine Corps ace (28 victories), and commander of VMF-214, the Black Sheep Squadron. Written on Boyington's own illustrated 'From Pappy's' letterhead and dated Aug. 9, 1979. The full text reads: 'Dear John: Thanks for your August 5th. These limited edition numbered prints have a historical explanation at the bottom border which does not show in the enclosed illustration — I autograph them to individuals personally. There is also a new print on my Flying Tiger days not shown for $50.00. Best always — Pappy Boyington.' Boldly hand-signed 'Pappy Boyington' at the close. A wonderful piece of aviation history from one of WWII's most famous fighter pilots. Used condition; paper shows light age toning consistent with a 1979 letter.
