Beautiful matched pair of vintage Thai temple rubbings depicting scenes from the Ramakien, the Thai version of the ancient Ramayana epic.These detailed multicolor works feature traditional Thai figures in elaborate costumes rendered primarily in rust/red, green and dark pigments on thin paper. The imagery is characteristic of the famous Ramakien relief tradition associated with Wat Pho (Wat Phra Chetuphon) in Bangkok, Thailand.Family Provenance:
These pieces have been in our family for many decades. According to family history, they were brought home from Asia by a family member during the Korean War era, circa early 1950s. We do not have documentation establishing the exact date or location where they were acquired, so they are being described according to family provenance rather than as definitively dated examples.The two pieces have remained together as a pair and are displayed in matching vintage wood frames with olive/green fabric-covered mats.Details:* Set of 2 framed Thai temple rubbings

These are vintage pieces showing age consistent with their history. The paper has visible wrinkles, creases and variations associated with the thin material. The frames, fabric mats and backing show age-related wear, discoloration and small marks. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.The artwork has not been removed from the frames, so the backs of the actual sheets and any possible markings underneath have not been examined.Please note: While the imagery is consistent with Thai Ramakien temple-rubbing traditions associated with Wat Pho, I cannot document that these particular examples were physically rubbed from the original Wat Pho stone reliefs.
