A pair of antique Italian pietra dura plaques showing two birds on a fruiting branch, hand cut and fitted in natural hardstones on a polished black stone ground. Birds have lapis lazuli caps and banded agate wings.
Both come in a ripple-molded giltwood frame, with an old wood plank on the back held in by hand-driven nails. That kind of construction is older than what you see on the 20th century workshop pieces that usually turn up. There is no maker's mark, which is normal for Florentine work like this; wired and ready to hang.
Condition: Overall good for age. The inlay is intact with no missing stones. The frames show minor wear at the outer edges.
Dimensions: 9" H, 7" W
