This document was signed by Kennedy less than three months into his presidency on April 13th, 1961 - which was only 4 days before the infamous Bay of Pigs Invasion was launched in Cuba! In addition to President Kennedy, it was also co-signed by U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk. Although Rusk’s signature is rather faded on the document, Kennedy’s is signed very dark boldly in black ink and shows no evidence of fading. It looks great, with no smudging, ink pooling, or any other imperfections. The document itself appoints Gerald A. Brown (of California) as a Member of the Labor Relations Board. This is one of the larger presidential appointments, measuring 24” wide by 20”tall.

• Last U.S. Military Execution: U.S. Army Private John A. Bennett was executed by hanging at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Bennett had been sentenced to death during the Eisenhower administration, and President Kennedy declined to commute or intervene in the sentence. This remains the last military execution carried out by the U.S. Armed Forces.
