Original period black-and-white real photograph showing Piper L-4H Cub G-AJDS, construction number 11658, an aircraft with genuine Second World War US military history.
This exact aircraft was originally USAAF serial 43-30367 before entering British civilian use as G-AJDS after the war. The registration is clearly visible in the photograph.
Likely date of photograph: c.1949–1950.
That dating is supported by other independently recorded photographs of G-AJDS: it was photographed at Gatwick in 1949 and at Croydon in approximately 1950. I cannot prove the precise location or date of this particular photograph, so I would describe it as circa 1949–50 rather than claim an exact date.
G-AJDS remained in Britain through the 1950s. By October 1958 it was photographed at Düsseldorf still wearing its British markings even though the German registration D-EJYD had already been allocated.
Remarkably, the same airframe survived for many decades. Records identify D-EJYD as the former G-AJDS / USAAF 43-30367, and it was still recorded as an extant privately owned aircraft at Cholet, France in 2021.
