Original period black-and-white real photograph showing Percival P.44 Proctor V G-AHBD, construction number AE27.
G-AHBD was a 1946-built Proctor V, one of the post-war four-seat developments of the Percival Proctor. The registration and construction number are independently recorded as G-AHBD / AE27.
Likely date of photograph: late 1940s to early 1950s.
I cannot prove a precise year from the registration alone, as G-AHBD remained in use for many years, so I would not falsely date this one to 1946 specifically.
This exact aircraft continued flying into the 1960s. It was photographed around Coventry in 1962 and was eventually withdrawn from use around 1970.
AviaDejaVu +1
There is an interesting later connection with one of Britain’s best-known racing aircraft: after G-AHBD was withdrawn and broken up, its engine and propeller were salvaged and used in the Tom Storey / Martin Barraclough rebuild of Percival Mew Gull G-AEXF.
AirHistory
The registration G-AHBD is visible in the photograph, allowing the exact aircraft to be identified.
