Original Real Photograph Miles M28 Mercury Mk V G-AJFE Rare Sole Example c1947:
$33.04

Original period black-and-white real photograph showing Miles M.28 Mercury Mk V G-AJFE, construction number 6697.

This is a particularly scarce aircraft. G-AJFE was the sole Mercury Mk V built, completed by Miles Aircraft at Woodley in 1947. The entire M.28 Mercury family amounted to only six aircraft of all versions.

The Mk V was a four-seat light aircraft powered by a Blackburn Cirrus Major III, with distinctive square rear cabin windows. G-AJFE was registered to Miles Aircraft on 7 March 1947.

Possible photograph date: 1947–1951 or late 1954–March 1955.

There are actually two periods when this aircraft carried G-AJFE. It flew under the British registration from 1947 until it went to Switzerland in June 1951, becoming HB-EEF. It returned to Britain and regained G-AJFE on 9 November 1954. Without a dated annotation on this particular print, I cannot honestly distinguish between those two periods, although an early post-war date is quite possible.

The aircraft\'s career ended shortly afterwards. On 13 March 1955, G-AJFE was substantially damaged in a forced landing at West Hyde near Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, and was subsequently broken up.

The registration G-AJFE is visible in the photograph, allowing this exact and unusually rare aircraft to be identified.

Photograph size: approx. 11 cm x 7 cm

Mount/card size: approx. 11.4 cm x 9 cm

Mounted on period card using photographic corner mounts. Reverse blank with no photographer’s stamp or annotation.

Acquired as part of a house clearance from an old private aviation photograph collection.

Only one copy of this photograph is available. I do not have the original negative.

Original vintage photographic print, not a modern reproduction.

Please study the photographs carefully for exact condition, including the photograph, card mount and corner mounts. Some mounts in this collection may have age-related damage or breakage, and photographs may be partly or fully detached where shown.

Combined postage available: I have a number of original period aviation photographs listed and can combine postage where possible if more than one is purchased.
