The area was called the Devil\'s half acre because in folk lore the devil wascarrying a lot of boulders in his apron one day and hurridly dropped some and they covered this area.. It is a favorite hiking area today. Apparantely it was a popular idea then to paint your visit dates and or names, details on rocks there, as we can see from the photos people did in the early 1900\'S.
