Liuli Gongfang(orLiuligongfang)is Taiwan's only contemporary glass studio devoted to artistic Chinese glassware.These two small bowls (or cups?) are in like new condition as they have never been displayed. Liuligongfang was founded in 1987 by actress Loretta Yangand director Chang Yi. The company name refers toliuli, a form of archaic Chinese glasswork; the founders chose to use the wordliuli, rather than the common name for glass,bolito honor their cultural origin. The founders aimed to revive the art of antique Chinese art glass,the production of which had dwindled following theFirst and Second Opium Warsin the 19th century. Aftermore than three years, she and Chang were able to master the Frenchpate-de-verreorlost-wax castingmethod. At the time of their founding, they operated a 2-person workshop in what is nowNew Taipei City.Works created by Liuli Gongfang have become part of the permanent collection ofLondon's Victoria and Albert Museumas well as the Palace Museum in Beijing's Forofferden City.
