Pair of beautiful tightly woven, beeswax-sealed plant-fiber rain hoods from Central Africa. Traditionally worn by women to protect themselves and infants carried on the back from rain and sun. Attributed to the Upper Nile region (NE DR Congo / NW Uganda; Lugbara–Mangbetu area).Late 19th century. Reportedly acquired in Africa in the 1950s. Authentic utilitarian objects, not reproductions.Light age-related wear and minor surface loss visible in photos. Structurally intact. Sold as a pair only.
