Large Stunning Burmese Wooden Marionette Pair – Approx 30" - Artemis Fine Arts - Royal King and Queen Figures.
Beautiful matched pair of large carved wooden marionettes in the style of traditional Burmese yoke thé puppet theatre, representing a royal or courtly couple.
Each figure measures approximately 30 inches tall and features a hand-carved and painted wooden head, articulated limbs, carved hands and feet, elaborate fabric clothing, and attached strings for suspended movement or display.
The male figure wears a tall spired headdress with a red band, patterned trousers, and an ornate red satin tunic embellished with gold cord, sequins, and metallic embroidery. He also holds a curved carved wooden dagger or ceremonial sword.
The female figure wears a beaded topknot ornament, green brocade sleeves, a purple-and-orange embroidered sash, and a richly patterned blue-and-gold skirt. Her costume includes decorative beadwork, metallic embroidery, and a draped shoulder panel.
Both puppets display painted facial features and naturally aged surfaces. Vintage condition with moderate wear, paint loss, fabric wear, loose or frayed threads, and age-related marks throughout. Strings remain attached, although they have not been tested for performance. Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition.
