This large (largest I’ve seen) African carving from Tanzania features a Makonde Ujamaa Mother Earth sculpture, measuring 36 inches in height. Handmade, likely in Tanzania, this unique piece reflects the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of that region of Africa. The intricate details and traditional design make it a standout collectible item that captures the essence of African artistry and spirituality.

My interpretation is a mother, or a spiritual metaphor for Mother Earth, embracing a boy about the age to becoming a man. Estimated date can be based on a 1950’s 1960’s purchase from a dealer / antique shop.
