Korean Najeonchilgi (mother-of-pearl lacquerware) jewelry box, typically crafted from the mid-to-late 20th century.
Key Characteristics
• Artistry: It features intricate iridescent abalone/mother-of-pearl shell slivers inlaid directly into black protective lacquer (ottchil). The shifting blue, green, and pink colors naturally catch the light when viewed from different angles.
• Symbolism: The scene depicts two birds perched on flowering tree branches (likely plums or cherry blossoms), and one in flight, which is a traditional Korean motif symbolizing harmony, joy, and new beginnings.
• Hardware: It is fitted with a decorative antique-style brass clasp on the front to secure the lid.
