This Japanese WWII period aircraft analog manual computer (or slide rule) was a hand held device that I believe was used by a pilot to calculate the aircraft heading with airspeed plus the wind speed and the wind direction. It features a sliding vernier to determine compass headings, The left face of the device has the Japanese character of port and the right side has the Japanese character for starboard. On the reverse side is a wooden handle for the pilot or navigator to hold while making adjustments to the device. The handle is somewhat burnt suggesting the possibility that it might have been recovered from a wrecked Japanese plane. The disc has a coat of flat varnish that I think was applied to reduce reflections The disc is 11.5" in diameter.
