A striking example of Japanese Tokanabe-style export ware. Produced circa 1920s-1930s, this vase features the classic \"stippled\" or \"sand-textured\" matte black finish designed to mimic the weight of cast iron.
The body is decorated with vibrant, hand-applied moriage (raised slip) floral motifs in deep reds and forest greens. At over 11 inches tall, it has an architectural presence compared to the more common smaller bud vases of this era.
Good to fair vintage condition for its age. The structural integrity is excellent with no cracks but does have several chips. As is common with this type of \"cold-painted\" pottery, there is some expected paint loss/flaking on the raised floral relief and minor wear to the rim (see photos for details). This natural patina confirms its age and authenticity. Packed securely and ships out next day.
