JOHN ROGERS STATUE GROUP REED AND BARTON PARIAN COMPLETE SET:
$360.00

In 1976, Reed & Barton, the internationally known silversmiths located in Taunton, Massachusetts, worked with some of the country’s leading authorities on Rogers Groups and re-created, in miniature, six of the original groups in porcelain bisque, or parian.

According to the company \"the creation of Reed & Barton’s series of six Rogers Groups was a story in itself, one covering nearly three years and three continents before all exacting standards of quality and craftsmanship were met. Reed & Barton’s Rogers Groups porcelains were individually hand-fired, hand-assembled and hand-finished by top porcelain artisans. Approximately one-third the size of Rogers’ original statuary, the Reed & Barton porcelains are exact copies, authentic in every minute detail, including the lettering.\" Reed & Barton noted they were particularly indebted to the sculptor’s namesake and great-grandson, John Rogers, for his invaluable assistance and cooperation during the design and manufacturing process.

There is an entire page devoted to this set on the website johnrogers with the usual com after it.

Reed & Barton selected the following six groups for the series:

Neighboring Pews -In this group, two ladies have come late to church. The gentleman behind them is showing the younger one the place in the hymn book, which has mad the older woman indignant at the preference he has shown. The boy in the front pew is amusing himself by putting on his father\'s hat and gloves.

Checkers Up at the Farm -A city gentleman who has come to the farm with his wife and baby is playing checkers with a farmer, who has forced his opponent\'s pieces into a fatal position. The farmer points with glee at the move which has defeated his opponent, yet the visitor remains good-natured. The baby is about to kick one of the kings and the cat plays with another piece which has fallen to the floor.

Coming to the Parson -More than 8,000 copies of the is group were sold by Rogers, many as a choices for wedding presents. It portrays a shy young couple approaching the minister to make their marriage plans. The minister is busily reading his newspaper, quite deliberately named \"The Union\". Humorously, the boy\'s dog and the parson\'s cat show animosity toward each other, perhaps prophetic of the couple\'s future.

Weighing the Baby -This group portrays a mother who has brought her baby to be weighed on the grocer\'s scale. She smiles with pride at the high weight, not realizing that the mischievous boy is stealthily tugging at the blanket, causing the phenomenal weight gain.

School Days -Two children on their way to school have stopped to see the dancing miniature figures on the hand organ. The little girl is intently watching, but the boy has been startled by the loss of his hat, snatched by the monkey.

The Favored Scholar -The young school teacher is busy explaining a sum on a slate to a pretty young lady standing attentively at his side. It is obvious that there is some personal interest in the instructor\'s attitude. A boy sitting on a bench out of sight of the teacher surreptitiously peeks around the corner of the desk and tries to distract her by putting wood shaving curls on his ears to tease.

Each group was between 7 ¾\" and 8\" high. The production was limited to 750 examples of each of the six pieces, although it is likely that far less were actually made.

Each group was marked with a blue ink stamp on its underside with the words, \"Rogers Group by Reed & Barton Porcelain Bisque.\"

The pieces are all in perfect condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.

Here\'s a great opportunity to acquire all six figures in the set at one time. The purchase price shown is for the entire set.....all six pieces. The advertisement is not included in this listing.
