Identified WIA Raider WWII USMC Marine Corps 6th Marine Division Wool Uniform. This jacket was originally issued to Pfc. Walter J. Banaskiewicz and likely reissued after he was wounded in action on Okinawa to SSgt.Louis J. Mariani who served in the Air-Wing.
Following his enlistment in 1943,Banaskiewicz was assigned to Queen Co. 4th Raider Battalion. Following their disbandment in early 1944 and the reformation of the 4th Marine Regiment, he joined Fox Co. 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines where his MOS is shown as 604 Light Machine-Gunner.Banaskiewicz took part in the Battles of Guam and Okinawa where he was wounded on at least one occasion, if not two. He later joined the 4th Marines for the occupation ofthe Japanese Navy Base at Yokosuka near Tokyo post-war.
