An original manuscript Resolution establishing Iowa's first major road system, a "Resolve by the Iowa House of Representatives", December 22, 1854 directing Iowa's Congressmen to seek approval for mail stage coach routes, The Resolution gives the routes to be established "tri-weekly in two horse coaches" including the route from McGregor's Landing to Clear Lake, naming the various towns in between, including Clermont, West Union, Bradford, Rock Grove etc, the Route from Dubuque to Mitchell County, including Colesburg, West Union, Auburn, Osage etc, and the Route from Lancaster, Wisconsin to West Union, Iowa, including Gutenberg, Garnavillo, Elgin, and directs the Resolution to be sent to the Iowa Members of Congress. The Resolution is written by Charles Clinton Nourse, and signed on the reverse by Nourse as Clerk of the Iowa House.
