Hohokam Tanque Verde Red-on-Brown Pottery Bowl Geometric Restored c.1150-1400
Prehistoric Hohokam, Tucson Basin red-on-brown tradition, probably Tanque Verde Red-on-Brown, dating roughly A.D. 1150–1400/1450.
The bowl has been broken into numerous pieces and reassembled/glued, with multiple visible fracture lines throughout the body and base. There are substantial losses/chips around the rim, at least one larger missing area, old adhesive visible internally, surface abrasion, pigment loss, and general archaeological/age wear. I would describe it as heavily repaired/restored from fragments, not simply “cracked.”
Prehistoric Southwestern pottery bowl attributed to the Hohokam cultural tradition, most consistent with Tucson Basin Tanque Verde Red-on-Brown pottery, approximately A.D. 1150–1400/1450. Hand-formed rounded bowl with buff/brown clay body and bold dark red-brown geometric painted decoration around the exterior. Interior is largely undecorated/plain with firing and age coloration.
This vessel has extensive old damage and restoration. It has been broken into numerous pieces and reassembled/glued, with visible fracture lines throughout, rim losses/chips, missing material, exposed adhesive, surface wear and pigment loss. Please examine all photographs closely; photographs are an important part of the condition description.

Attribution is based upon vessel form, exterior decorative placement and comparison with published Hohokam/Tanque Verde Red-on-Brown archaeological examples. No modern maker’s mark is present.
I am comfortable with “Hohokam red-on-brown tradition” as the working attribution.
PROVENANCE: Purchased by the current owner at Treasure sale Services in Durango, Colorado, as part of a large bulk grouping from the collection of a 102-year-old private collector. The sale purchase covered the entire grouped lot rather than this vessel individually, so no separate receipt or individual lot value exists for the bowl. The current owner retains documentation of the overall sale purchase. Earlier ownership or excavation history is unknown.
