This started off life as one of the Hasbro Marvel legends masks from the hit movie the Black Panther .when the Hasbro legends Black Panther mask released back in 2018 it was hard to find , picked one up a few years later in sorry condition and way over priced as Chadwick Boseman had sadly passed away , I assume driving up the prices of black panther collectibles . still has the original box that I got it in although I will say the box is not in great condition and consider it only as part of the shipping container. I’m not sure the box in this condition add any real value to the mask. Upon close inspection, the eyes no longer functioned I could not get them to stay up or come back down again with the button press that was supposed to happen. Also, the lights didn’t work. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated at being so hoodwinked. So the process of disassembly began figuring out where the brakes in the wires were how to fix them get the lights working and the mechanism for keeping the eyes up and allowing them to drop closed when you push the button gravity, pulling them down . the helmet is incredibly detailed on the inside and still has the two pads for the back and the top of the head so that the hard plastic is not resting on your skull. This is a very solid plastic helmet, not flimsy at all one of the things that I didn’t like is the areas where the LEDs are hidden is made of transparent plastic so you can see the wires and see the LEDs. When I had this taken apart, I sanded the surfaces of all of those to frost them over and make them more opaque, allowing the light to come out, but not you to be able to see the inner workings. One of the happier accidents in this process is it tends to make the lights glow brighter as it distributes the light much more evenly across the mask. This was not part of the plan, but again a very, very happy accident. Then the entire surface of the mask was sanded lightly creating the scratches that look like the metallic machine surface of any material. This is done very deliberately, and all of the sanding is done in One Direction almost a similar look if you look at aluminum or stainless steel it seems to have those machine lines in them. Each section was painstakingly sanded, and then test fitted to make sure nothing was missed. Then the entire mask was reassembled and painted using multiple layering techniques of glass black, satin, black and flat black. And then added some very light layers of medium blue, dark blue, and purple to various areas to break up the overall mass. Once this was done, the entire thing got weathered very lightly with chrome silver. Once all of this was dry and the paint was 100% cured. It was given three coats of lacquer to seal the paint in and prevent any wear. If you’re looking at the mask, the button on the left you holding in push up the eyes and they lock into place the button on the right activates three or four different flashing patterns of LEDs with a long press and hold turning the lights back off has three AA batteries in a small battery compartment in the chin section of the mask from my own personal collection and a 100% smoke free home. This one was definitely a passion project so I hope it ends up in a new home that appreciates it as much as I did. Original Box is 14 inches long by 10 inches wide by 10 inches tall , weighs approximately 2lbs
