This vintage lithographic postcard depicts the Hotel Huntington in Huntington, Long Island, New York. The building is a classic three-story structure made of brick with a symmetrical façade. The windows on the upper floors feature awnings, which were a common feature of early 20th-century architecture, likely providing both shade and aesthetic appeal. The arched windows on the ground floor add a touch of elegance to the design. These might house the lobby and storefronts or other commercial spaces typically found in hotels of this era. The signage above the entrance clearly reads \"Hotel Huntington,\" and the main entryway has a canopy that might have been used to protect guests from the weather. Several vintage cars are parked in front of the building, dating the image to the late 1930s or early 1940s based on their design. This postcard is in very good overall condition. There are no tears, discoloration or creasing. The sepia-toned print is consistent with vintage lithographic postcards, which often used halftone dot patterns to render images. The printing technique was utilized during the early-to-mid twentieth century and the cards were known for thier high quality, detailed illustrations. The Huntington Hotel served visitors to the town of Huntington, a growing suburban area located on the north shore of Long Island, New York. The sixty room hotel was developed after World War I. It was designed by Long Island architect, August H. Galow. Funding was organized by the Huntington Chamber of Commerce. The hotel opened for business five months before the stock market crash of 1929. However, it was a successful hotel for two decades. In 1950 it was turned into a high end department store and remained a retail space until the 1990\'s when it was converted into an office building. The building was demolished in 2012 and replaced by a bank. Print of the reverse of the postcard indicate that the hotel was part of the American Hotels Corporation. The firm was a major hotel management and development company during the twentieth century. The postcard was published by the Whitney Press (Albany, New York). a well known producer of vintage postcards. This vintage postcard is in good overall condition.
