HISTORIC Generals A.P. Hill and John Hunt Morgan Family Albums
When I bought these albums, they had been pilfered at some point in time in the past. I don't think it was recent, or some of these would have been taken out also. I believe all the uniformed were taken but before the sale house got them as there were no single CDV's in the sale. Possibly pilfered by the family as these came from an estate sale, and were the only photographic items, so not from a collector. There are a number that are identified and some I was able to find same pics at Find A Grave and Ancestry. There are at least 4 that I am sure are either related soldiers or were in the General's staff that were taken after the war and in civilian clothing, especially the Brady CDV. Almost all are from Culpepper VA or close by except the Baltimore CDVs which is where Major Edward Baptist Hill's son moved to and became a lawyer. The Southern Belles I am sure are A.P. Hill's wife and Edward's wife. See Identified below. I have all scanned front and back. The Reverend was a large plantation slave holder, but I do not think related. I think, but cannot prove that the second to last photo in Album one is a previously unknown photo of Belle Boyd. It has a Gardner, Washington D.C. backmark. Excerpted from Wikipedia, "That night, she rode through Union lines, using false papers to bluff her way past the sentries, and reported the news to Colonel Turner Ashby, who was scouting for the Confederates." General Turner Ashby was related to Mrs. Mildred Ann Turner Hill.
