Base Signature: \"Olson\" hand-signed on the unglazed bottom in brown slip.

Greg Olson signs his work on the raw clay foot of each piece — consistent with his established studio practice across his full body of work.

🎨 About Greg Olson

Greg Olson began making pottery in Kenwood, California in 1972. He and his wife Susie relocated to Trinity County in 1975, and in 1983 they purchased the historic building at 516 Main Street in downtown Weaverville that now houses the Olson Stoneware retail shop — a 1,500-square-foot destination that draws visitors from around the world.

Each piece goes through a fifteen-step process including two ten-hour firings at 2,400°F. That high-fire process is what produces the distinctive flowing glazes Olson is known for — the blues, browns, ambers, and purples shift and blend unpredictably during firing, making every piece one of a kind. All Olson stoneware is microwave and dishwasher safe, and lead-free.

Over fifty years in, Olson continues producing wheel-thrown stoneware from his mountain studio. His work ranges from mugs and baby sets to large serving pieces like this chip and dip server. The larger functional forms are the most sought-after on the secondary market.
