We are offering a German Mettlach 0.5L beer stein # 1698 dated. c.1899.The picturesque Alte Fink (Old Finch) restaurant was once the most famous student tavern in Göttingen, a university city in central Germany. The original building in Groner Strasse (shown) was demolished, but it was re-erected on Nikolai Strasse in 1898 and still exists today. This stein is in very good clean and undamaged condition. The strap is tight and the tang is firmly affixed to the lid. The lid with the name of students and is dated 1899. There are some markings on the rim of the lid on one side which obviously had to do with some fraternal code of drinks consumed. Please email if you have questions.
