This original George Nelson “Safety Numbers” Lucite ruler, designed during the Mid-Century Modern era, is an original vintage piece bought new at the time.
It is Nelson’s typical high quality finely designed graphic design featuring alternating translucent blue and green numerals from 1 through 19 with a measurement scale along the bottom edge.
The thick 19” Lucite ruler showcases the bold typography and color-overlap design language associated with George Nelson’s celebrated Safety Numbers series.
The right end has a silver foil label with “Bibi Products Inc. Los Angeles 90834 Made in Taiwan”
Most examples found on the market are the standard 13-inch size, making this oversized 19-inch variation an exceptional find for collectors of graphic design, typography, and modernist desk accessories.
While this striking blue and green typography style is heavily celebrated and attributed to George Nelson & Associates (designed in the 1960s/70s), this specific extended-length piece features its original "Bibi Products Co. Inc. - Los Angeles - Made in Taiwan" branding details on a silver foil label at the right edge (see photos).
Condition:
Almost perfect with two tiny spots of paint loss on the “2” of the “12” (see photo). The graphic enamel colors remain incredibly bright and vibrant. Please see all photos for exact details. Shipped in a sturdy tube.
