Federal Regency Period Britannia Metal Teapot c. 1800 RARE
A well-proportioned early Britannia metal teapot dating to the Federal - Regency period. The body is of rounded cylindrical form with an oval hinged lid, fitted with a turned wooden finial. The pot is decorated with simple horizontal bands at the shoulder and a pressed fluted band around the lower body, giving a restrained, neoclassical look typical of the period.
It retains its original ebonized wooden handle, nicely shaped and securely attached, along with a gracefully curved spout with hand-finished tip. The hinged lid functions properly and sits neatly within the opening.
The surface shows a soft, even patina consistent with age, with light wear and minor marks from use. A small stamped “S” mark is present, likely a workshop or workman’s mark.
A solid and attractive example of an early Britannia metal teapot, dating to approximately 1790–1810. This form closely followed the silver ones but much scarcer in this metal. Lovely form in fine condition...American or British. Do not mistaken this teapot with very common Britannia wares post-1830.
Rare early piece!
