Good to fair condition. Moderate signs of some wear and tear on edges/corners and other minor faults due to age. Storage might have caused some yellowing or toning. This postcard shows the entrance to Wompi Cave, a historic tourist attraction that was located on a farm near Watson, Iowa (in Clayton County, near the towns of Monona and McGregor). The cave was opened as a commercial show cave in the 1930s by a local farmer named Gerald Mielke. It was quite popular during that decadeāso much so that the local roadway past the nearby, yet-undeveloped Spook Cave was originally known as Wompi Cave Road. The cave was named "Wompi" (meaning "dark and deep") to honor the Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) Tribe, whose chief Whirling Thunder once had a village nearby.
