This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 6¾ x 5 inches (170x125mm).
It shows an outdoor gathering of children and a few adults in a grassy field with a line of trees in the background. The group is dressed in Edwardian-era clothing, with many of the children and adults wearing hats. In the centre of a circle formed by the onlookers, two figures, possibly older girls or women, are performing a dance. One is wearing a white dress with a large white bonnet, and the other wears a dark skirt and a wide-brimmed hat. The other children are watching the performance, with some sitting on the grass and others standing. The reverse has a handwritten pencil inscription which reads, \"The Cake Walk.\" Another inscription reads, \"Folder 117\".
