Description & History
Carl Schlieper is the Solingen shop, founded in 1898. The mark is the eye with the rays, the Eye Brand. Collectors know it as the German Eye. The etch on this master says hammered forged, Solingen, Germany. That is the line they put on the better folders.
GX-DS is the copperhead in deluxe stag. On the Eye Brand stamps, GX is the copperhead pattern, the two-blade with the raised bolsters. DS is deluxe stag. Schlieper put real stag on these after 1980. Before that the “stag” was bone. The DS stamp is the tell. Closed about 3 3/4 in., clip and a pen, nickel silver bolsters, the Eye shield in the scale.
These were made in Solingen through the 1980s. The factory is gone. What is left is what was already in the drawer. This one is still in the plastic sleeve. No box came with it.
