Celius Flame Grain \"King\" from The Chess Line (Grade GG) is a highly collectible vintage Danish estate pipe crafted by the legendary artisan Svend Axel Celius. This \"Checkmark\" pipe represents the pinnacle of mid-20th-century Danish freehand design, where the structural geometry of the briar is entirely \"servant to the natural grain.\" The Chess Line: Celius uniquely graded his freehands based on chess pieces. The hierarchy from lowest to highest quality is: Pawn (typically sandblasted) → Rook → Knight → Bishop → Queen → King (the highest premium tier). A flame grain features tight, vertical, ribbon-like fiery streaks moving up the sides of the bowl. The double-letter stamp \"GG\" is Celius\' proprietary grade configuration showcasing an exceptionally high-density or pristine execution of that flame pattern. While I love this pipe, I have too many in my collection that I don\'t regularly smoke and need to pass this on to someone who will enjoy it more often than I do.
