This is most likely a very hard-to-find, original carte de visite (CDV) photograph of Mary E. Irvin, the wife of Daniel W. Wilder. Wilder was a journalist, lawyer, and politician who played a key role in founding the Republican Party in Kansas in 1859. He later served as the Surveyor-General of Kansas and Nebraska, appointed by President Lincoln. The photograph is in very nice condition and measures 2-3/8\" x 3.75\". The bottom edge has been slightly trimmed, but this does not affect the photograph itself. The back of the card is stamped with \"A. C. Nichols Photographist, Leavenworth, Kansas.\"* * * * * * * * *
