Up for sale is a genuine United States Navy Civil War Campaign Medal. Authorized in 1908, this historic medal was awarded to Navy veterans or their next of kin to honor military service during the American Civil War.
Item Details:
• Obverse (Front): Designed by renowned sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt, featuring the classic American eagle perched on a fouled anchor, bordered by \"UNITED STATES NAVY\" and \"FOR SERVICE\" with a bottom laurel wreath.
• Reverse (Back): Depicts the famous ironclad battle at Hampton Roads, showing sailors on the deck of the USS Monitor with the CSS Virginia in the background. Engraved with \"THE CIVIL WAR 1861-1865\".
• Ribbon: Features the correct, official 1913-pattern split dark blue and light blue drape.
Condition (Please Read Carefully):
• Medal Planchet: Excellent vintage condition. The bronze has developed a gorgeous, natural patina over the last century. High-relief details remain very sharp and crisp.
• Ribbon: Please note that the metal brooch pin/mounting bar at the top of the ribbon is missing. The top edge of the ribbon fabric shows natural fraying where it was originally attached to the brooch bar (see close-up photos). The rest of the ribbon body is structurally sound, clean, and retains excellent color.
Because these medals were issued decades after the war ended, they were minted in relatively small numbers, making original Navy strikes highly sought after by militaria collectors. This is a fantastic opportunity to own a piece of American history, perfect for display or restoration.
100% authentic vintage piece. Fast, secure shipping with tracking. Please look closely at all photos and ask any questions before offerding/buying!
