The “Signum Laudis” medalwas awarded only to officers for outstanding merit that did not warrant theCross of Military Merit; it could also be awarded with swords on the ribbon foroutstanding service in direct contact with the enemy (see von Falkenstien, Joseph; ImperialAustrian Medals and Decorations (1972) pp. 166-167; Lussier, Richard; Journalof the Orders and Medals Society of America (September-October 2020)pp.22-27). The medal is in better than very fine condition to near extremely, withminor wear to gold gilt; engraver-marked KAUTSCH; on worn original war ribbon.Unlike the articulated crown of the Franz Joseph Medal for Military Merit, thetwo crowns of the Karl version were all made as an integral part of the medal.Authenticity guaranteed; 14-day return privilege (30 days overseas), excludingpostage, provided item is returned in same condition when sold.
