Antique Circa 1900 German Pewter Railway Presentation Stein – Felsenstein & Mainzer, Nürnberg
Exceptional antique German heavy cast pewter presentation stein dating to approximately 1890–1910 and attributed by its F & M / N maker's mark to Felsenstein & Mainzer of Nürnberg (Nuremberg), Germany.
This was not simply a decorative beer stein. It was specially engraved as a 30-year service presentation piece associated with a Royal Railway Workshop (Kgl. Eisenbahnwerkstätte) and presented by the Gesangverein Teutonia (Teutonia Choral Society) to its president.
The stein is exceptionally substantial, weighing nearly 2 pounds, and features elaborate high-relief figural and foliate decoration, an ornate hinged domed lid, sculptural eagle thumb lift, and extensive period hand engraving.
Engraved inscription includes:
"To Our President"
"Dedicated on the occasion of his 30 years of service/activity at the Royal Railway Workshop, from the Teutonia Choral Society."
Additional hand engraving appears on the plate beneath the eagle/thumb lift. The recipient's name is partially obscured and has not been conclusively deciphered, so no attribution to a specific individual is being made.
Excellent antique condition for its age with a rich, naturally aged pewter patina. Surface wear, oxidation/tarnish, scratches and age-related discoloration are present as expected on a piece more than a century old. Hinged lid remains intact and functional.
