Family of Mustache Men — and one very good dog. 😄
This is a wonderful antique California family photograph, circa 1890s, photographed by R. W. Riggs, 1113 J Street, Fresno, Cal. The photographer\'s studio mark is clearly visible on the reverse and makes this an especially interesting piece of early Fresno and Western U.S. history.
The large family group is posed formally on the porch of their home, with several spectacular Victorian mustaches, women in high-necked dresses, a child with an early wheeled toy/tricycle, and a sweet dog sitting right in the middle of the group. The clothing, architecture, landscaping, and wonderfully serious expressions make this a fantastic snapshot of late-19th-century California life.
The photograph has beautiful age and character, with softly faded tones and natural antique wear. There is some spotting and age toning on the reverse, but importantly, it does NOT bleed through to the front image. The photographic side remains clean and highly displayable.
